Hey guys..yesterday saturday soccer training, I got my first goal assist hahaha.
Soccer training yesterday was so fun, started with the usual warm-up under a temporary new coach, Mr Joice, PT for AWWA. He started us off by doing the basic warm-up practices such as stretching etc. A new traing method was introduced, as he also asked the players to run around the field for 2 rounds, so as to increase our stability and stamina. It felt good to be under him as he introduced new ways to increase our standard of soccer.
After which, the players casually practiced our passing and shooting and dribbling skills. For me, I did practice trying to use my right foot to pass the ball. It was ok i should say. I also practiced my dribbing and changing of directions while dribbling the ball on my own.
The coach then asked for a practice match 4-a-side, with me and Peter as captain. Well, I followed my instinct to choose TJ as my first player, as he is a good goalkeeper, and well, basically a good personal friendship with him helps in my first selection. Sharman and Armann to complete my team. For the first match, i played basically as a defender, also as a supporting attacking midfielder and striker with sharman. I told myself before the game that i had to play well this time, being diapointed with myself for the last 2 sessions. That indeed made me played better than i expected.
Firstly, there was 1 sitution where TJ passed the ball to me inside defense to start attacking. Peter was closing down on me fast but i dunno how I did it, bcoz i juz controlled the ball and moved it in another direction, and through Peter's legs( so called the Ole) haha. I burst through and tried move the ball towards goal, but Victor took the ball away from me haiz.. However, I continued to play despite that setback. I even tried to slide Victor and Mr Joice, but unfortunately failed.
Then it came my moment of "brillance" in a flash. Armann the goalkeeper threw the ball to me, as i was in a midfield position. I told mysellf that i got to get to the ball first, ahead of my marker. I tot i succeeded when i chested the ball down, and controlled the ball using my left leg and just kicked the ball. Fortunately, Sharman took my pass, and went through on goal to score. After which I knew then Ikew that i got my first assit to a goal. Naturally, I was pleased with myself. I felt happy t be able to contribute with that pass to score that goal. I continued to link well with harman in attack, also providing some passes and also controlling some passes that I received from him. I continued to have that belief that I can play well throughout the training session. At the end of the match, my team won 5-3. I felt very happy that I am able to contribute to a goal that we scored.
The players also practiced a real penalty shooting excercise, where we took turns to shoot at goal. For me, I have tried to get my shooting technique right by seeing the way sharman and the others shoot. Still, i was always unable to get that technique correct, as my shots would always swerve away wth no power. But, i told myself that i will get it de, since the technique u got it technically correct, just thsat it has to fall well for me. And that determination didnt fsil me, s I finally got the technique right as I at least got a shot with enough power and on target, whivh the goalkeeper did well to save. I gained back my confidence and continued to try on my own. I learned to stop the ball with my left leg. However, I still have to improve on the technique of my shooting.
Before the training, i also practiced on my own last week. I tink that there is an strong improvement, and I m going to continue to practice again. Like what my friends always say: Practice Makes Perfect.
